Future Directions for Goodwood Parish - arising from the Appreciate Inquiry
1) Young People
- Employ a youth worker to work with young people in the cluster and be supported by a ‘youth’ committee established at Goodwood. (target group - approx. 15 to 25 year olds)
- Set up a branch of Antioch
- Establish a Kids Club (primary school age children)
- Prepare a roster for a regular youth mass (planning to avoid sporting commitments etc.) – at a new time or at current mass times.
- St Thomas class involvement.
2) Community project - Invite parishioners to suggest or nominate people who might be interested in coordinating a project such as -
- Drama lessons (perhaps leading to) ….. a performance
- Arts lessons (perhaps leading to) …. an exhibition
- Indigenous Garden project with a focus on sustainable practises e.g. rain water tank, plants attracting bird life, possible nature walk.
- Supporting communities in need e.g. East Timor, an indigenous community.
3) Establishing links with nearby community services e.g.-
- Unley Council
- Goodwood Community Centre
- Clarence Park Community Centre
- Other parishes
4) Young Families Focus
- Provide a directory of local support services and social groups which may be of interest to young families – particularly within the Goodwood Parish / St. Thomas community.
- Establish another ‘Family Group’ with members consisting of families with young children.
- Organise informal social gatherings, for example - picnics at nearby parks e.g. Soutar Park, Goodwood Oval etc. after Sunday mass.
5) Music at Saturday evening masses
- Discuss with choir and / or Marion & Bruce group the possibility of playing a few times each year at Saturday evening mass.
- Update hymnal – contemporary music
6) Ecumenical Focus
- Further develop links with St. George Anglican Church.
7) 3rd Rite of Reconciliation
- Prepare a petition to be sent to the Pope requesting the reinstatement of this form of reconciliation.
