OUR LITURGY
Introduction
We resume our readings from St. Luke’s Gospel with a central piece of the Travel Narrative that Luke follows as Jesus forms his disciples as they moved towards Jerusalem and all that happens there.
1st Reading 1 Kings 19:16. 19-21
We hear a rather odd story that is meant to connect with the Gospel. Just as Jesus prepared his disciples for the journey to Jerusalem, so too the Lord Yahweh prepared Elijah for what he had to do to fulfil God’s plan. Are you prepared to respond to God’s call to us?
Psalm Response
You are my inheritance, O Lord.
2nd Reading Galatians 5:1. 13-18
St. Paul addresses the people in Galatia in what could be the oldest New Testament writings. He encourages them to remember their goodwill when they first follow the call of Christ.
Gospel Acclamation
Alleluia, Alleluia!
Speak, O Lord, your servant is listening; you have the words of everlasting life. Alleluia!
Gospel Reading Luke 9:51-62
We hear the words of St. Luke with strong Old Testament resonance of the important decision Jesus takes to head for Jerusalem for the unfolding of his Father’s plan.

WORLD YOUTH DAY & OUR CLUSTER
Anthony Kain PP
This time next year we will be just about to celebrate World Youth Day in Sydney, which is really a number of days – 10-14 July 2008
We want to launch our lead up time for this at Masses next week but especially at the Cluster Youth Mass at 6.00pm next Saturday at St. Therese Church, Colonel Light Gardens. So we invite people interested to come along to this event and Mass. One of the Diocesan Team members is to be there to introduce the excitement. We hope many young people will take this opportunity to be in Sydney next year. Our Parish Youth Ministry Team will help with this and the PPCs and the Parish Finance Councils are planning and helping to budget for this event.
The WYD08 theme, received from The Holy Father is: 'You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses.' Acts 1:8
This passage occurs after the death and resurrection of Jesus, just before his ascension to the Father. It represents the birth of the Church.
For the days leading up to WYD08 the dioceses of Australia and New Zealand will welcome the youth of the world in what is best described as a cultural exchange in the context of faith.
We see "Days in the Dioceses" as an excellent opportunity for the youth of the world to join local communities in prayer and celebration, to experience Australia beyond Sydney, to help renew the Church in the places they visit, as well as to receive Australian hospitality.
Activities of the days will be organized and we hope our parish will be involved with these.
The World Youth Day Cross is the most significant tangible symbol of World Youth Day. Originally the idea of Pope John Paul 11, the 3.8 metre high wooden Cross was built and placed as a symbol of the Catholic faith, near the main altar in St. Peter's Basilica during the Holy Year of 1983. At the end of that year, Pope John Paul gave this cross as a gift to the youth of the world, to be carried through the world as a symbol of Christ's love for humanity. is will be in Adelaide in November and again we hope to be part of that time.
Let us pray and support the young people of our parishes as the excitement unfolds.
