Our youth activity program aims to encourage and support youth within the Goodwood-Kingswood-Colonel Light Gardens Tri-Parish Cluster region, and encourage their spiritual growth. Through guidance and facilitation, and by taking part in a regular, planned series of activities, we hope our youth will become more confident, outward-looking, and passionate about life and others in our community. The youth in the program will be largely responsible for guiding activities and involvement, although the Youth Ministry team will keep across such decisions and guide them to fit within the parish frameworks. Within a spiritual framework, the program will promote positive mental health (developing self-esteem, coping with change, dealing with stress), create opportunities for young people to be involved in the development and implementation of parish and local community strategy plans and policy, and support initiatives where young people can lead change on a particular issue of importance in their community.

The Bereavement Group
What we do.
The Bereavement Group members, in conjunction with the Parish Priest, have two basic tasks:
Funeral liturgy preparation
Follow up of bereaved families
Process: Group members would usually come in contact with the bereaved family immediately following the death of a family member
The contact with the Parish would usually be made by a Funeral Director wanting to arrange a Priest and book a church for the funeral. The initial contact might be made with a Parish secretary, Fr Anthony or a Pastoral Associate. These people will liaise with each other and the Bereavement group as required, with the result that Fr Anthony and a church are booked and an appointment is made for Fr Anthony, or a Pastoral Associate and a Bereavement Group member to visit the family to plan the funeral liturgy.
Usually more than one visit is required so the Bereavement Group member does the second visit to finalise arrangements and liaises with the Parish Secretary, the Funeral Director and musicians as required.
The process of planning the Funeral Liturgy can take a significant and constructive place in the grief experience of the family involved. Facilitating the family meeting together for this task, enables sharing of highly emotionally charged material. It can help people to share their thoughts and feelings, to draw closer together in mutual support, it can initiate the healing of old wounds, particularly those inflicted by the church in the past. It is truly a service to the bereaved.
The Group member involved in the planning will set up the Church for the funeral, will take part in the Funeral, and as someone who has shared in this significant event is able, subsequently, to follow up the family as/if required.
To be able to function as a Bereavement Group member a person must:
Be reasonably available ie they can’t be people in full time employment.
Have their own transport
As well as being able to relate effectively to people who are in shock and grief.
If you are interested in finding out more about the Bereavement Group, please contact Sr Elaine on 8351 2385.
